Mirabel "Elle" Blishwick Living amongst the stars doesn't mean that, occasionally, we can't walk this earthCurfew was at nine o'clock, at ten past the hour Elle knew she was pushing her luck. With a great deal of reluctance she allowed her eyes to search out betelguese one last time as she carefully dismantled her telescope.
Well, it wasn't her telescope exactly, of school stock it was rather archaic but it did the job. With time bearing down on her like the Bloody Baron she hardly wanted to lug her own telescope from her dormitory to the highest tower and back again, all the while dodging teachers and prefects who were a little too free with their point-deducting privileges. The school was asking her to use their supplies, why else would they keep it away from prying hands with only a spell that alohomora could break?
This wasn't her first late-night visit to the astronomy tower this week, and the hour glass had already taken quite a hit from her recent trips. It was the dark circles beneath her eyes which bore testament to the sheer number of hours she had spent at the top of the tower, with only her telescope and the odd love struck couple to keep her company.
Every other day this week she could not be distracted from the stars, drinking them in with the first of a famished woman until a professor or prefect cut her late night jaunt short. However, here she was returning her borrowed telescope to its home before the moon had even fully set.
She had no explanation for her sudden listlessness, perhaps her body had finally turned traitor and instigated a coup against the stars' dictatorship or maybe it was the gentle breeze, deceptively cold, that bit through her threadbare winter cloak.
The Hufflepuff had been operating on very little sleep for a while now, caused in part by her late nights up in the astronomy tower and the even later nights scrubbing all manner of things in various parts of the castle by hand, a list of which includes cauldrons in the potions store, bedpans in the hospital wing and trophies in the trophy. She was beginning to think that an early night and a trip to Gladrags Wizardwear were long overdue.
Pulling her cloak tighter around herself she prepared to embark of the long trek from the astronomy tower to the Hufflepuff common room. She hoped that those keeping a keen eye out for students breaking curfew were too busy keeping warm by the fire and that, for once, she would escape the night detention free and with house points to spare.

(Mind if I hop in?)It was cold, for one thing. Scarlet had thrown on whatever she had hanging over her poster bed headboard and made her way out of the Hufflepuff common room, heavy book in hand. This was only one of the many nights she hadn't found any relaxation curled up in the thick blankets, and Scarlet found herself constantly waking up early to go isolate herself before things got busy at Hogwarts. Reading was a better pass-time than sleep ever would be for her, Scarlet assured herself. What were hazy dreams compared to a full alternate universe? The trek up the Astronomy Tower was a long one. Scarlet slid around dozens of nooks and crannies to even reach it's first step. Why did she have to sleep so far away? For her fourth trip this month Scarlet was starting to have fleeting thoughts of getting reassigned to another house just so this wouldn't be such a hassle every time she wanted some peace and quiet without the fear of waking her room mates--that thought got blown out pretty quickly. Clip, clip, clip.
Scarlet pressed herself to the wall of the tower in vein. She was already half up, and there were no more places to hide from Prefects or Professors, whatever one was making it's way down the twisted pathway. Scarlet held her breath, preying to whoever would hear. Please let this be a common night owl. Maybe some other student who didn't care about the curfews? One of her wishes came true. A friendly face came around the corner to meet hers and Scarlet let out a long, length sigh of delight. Mirabel, one of Scarlet's house mates. She had been in most of her classes coming up to seventh year, and although they didn't talk much, Mirabel couldn't have made Scarlet more relieved at the time. Scarlet smiled slightly under the light of the few remaining stars, and waved.

Mirabel "Elle" Blishwick Living amongst the stars doesn't mean that, occasionally, we can't walk this earthShe saw the shadow cast by the torches first, a flickering shape against the stone wall of the tower moving up the stone steps and she was ever glad of the Astronomy Tower's spiral shape.
Elle knew that her time was limited before her mysterious companion was upon her, her eyes quickly darted from side to side but the tower was not like the corridors or Hogwart's. There were no doorways hidden behind a sliding panel or hanging tapestries. There was a door a few paces behind her, but if memory served her right, it wasn't really a door at all only a wall pretending.
And if it were a real door? Well, the only place a door could lead to in the tower was thin air, after all if you were to stand in the grounds of Hogwart's and look up you did not see a room hanging off of the side of the tower.
In the corridor at the bottom of the tower there was a door that only opened if you asked it politely, but she was halfway up the tower and an unwanted guest stood between her and the door.
She noted an alcove which was dark with shadows, but she'd long since grown too big to squeeze behind the suit of armour who stood guard there, and she could only imagine the embarrassment if she was caught trying.
There was no way out except forwards or upwards.
What would be more suspicious? A Hufflepuff heading to her dorm room mere moments after curfew, or a Hufflepuff who looked to be sneaking to the top of the tower.
She decided on the option which would, presumably cost her house less points if any were taken at all, after all curfew had not long since come to pass and sucking in a deep breath continued down the steps.
She had no lies ready on her tongue, she was a Hufflepuff and an honest being, but luckily for her as she rounded the corner steadily the person she came face to face to was neither a professor nor a prefect.
In her drowsy state it took her a few moments to register that she knew the person before her, the blonde let out a soft chortle and a smile alighted on her face as the other student bid her a wave.
"Good Evening." She greeted Scarlet softly, standing off to the side allowing the other girl room to pass. "I hope you've got a decent cloak." Elle warned her fellow Hufflepuff, referring to low temperatures at the top of the tower.

Scarlet moved her hands up to inspect the threadbare cloak around her. It was dingy, that was for sure, but it would hold as well as she needed it to for tonight as well as any future night. Maybe she should invest in a new one, though? It was starting to get a little embarrassing going place to place with holes showing through to whatever shirt she had chosen, Scarlet blushed in the low light.
"It'll work"She muttered, probably a little to low for the Hufflepuff to hear her but enough to convince herself about her robes state. Scarlet then teared her eyes away and back to Mirabel. She looked like she had been up there for awhile, and what time was it now? Scarlet hadn't bothered to check the clock before leaving, so for all she knew Mirabel had been up there for hours upon hours--If all went as planned, so would Scarlet.
"Is there anyone else up there?" Scarlet wouldn't be surprised if there were other people much like themselves enjoying the moonlight, or maybe a few 'run aways' just trying to flee from a fumed Filch. No matter who was up there, Scarlet didn't feel all that inclined to share the space. There were other places to go after all.

Mirabel "Elle" Blishwick Living amongst the stars doesn't mean that, occasionally, we can't walk this earthElle pulled her cloak a little tighter around herself, she couldn't escape from the bitter wind even half-way up the tower, after all, there were no roaring fires here. Through her Muggle Studies she had learnt that the muggles had a curious invention known as a radiator that kept their rooms warm. She cast her eyes to the looming cold stone walls. Oh how she longed for one now.
"I haven't seen anyone." She explained lowly, moving passed her classmate until she was a few stairs lower. The Hufflepuff looked back over her shoulder with a sleepy smile. "Don't get caught. " Elle teased gently.
She continued to laugh softly as she made her way down to the bottom of the tower, taking each step of the circular staircase one at a time, heading towards a hanging tapestry a few corridors away which lead right to the moving staircases. After that she wanted nothing more than to curl up beneath her patchwork duvet, the teenager was glad she'd had the forethought to leave her copper bed warmer beneath the sheets before she'd ventured out that evening.
( Sorry for the length, but she's extremely tired, freezing and heading to bed, I hardly think she's going to hand around and chat, if she was in front of a fire it may be a different story! I'll try and create a new thread where she isn't going anywhere, so she can interact more XD)
