Likes:
••• All Things Muggle
Elle has a likening for muggle objects, not to be misunderstood with an understanding. An idealiser of the 'grass is always greener on the other side' mindset, she loves everything muggle without true attachment or purpose. It stemmed from her own grandfather's curiosity in muggles, who in turn forced the interest upon her during childhood. Since his passing her interest in all-things muggle has become rather obsessive. She passes her love of muggle things off as an act of rebellion against the Pureblood stereotype and her families ideals (late grandfather excluded). Her most prized possession is a muggle torch given to her by her grandfather.
••• Astronomy
Closely linked with her love of muggles and her torch. When she was a young child her grandfather snuck into her room with the 'forbidden' muggle object (her grandmother had a distaste for all thing muggle) and thick blanket dotted with holes. He would shine the torch under the blanket creating constellations on the ceiling and teach her about them. Her astronomy lessons at Hogwarts only cemented her love of the stars, she likes to stay on the Hogwart's ground or astronomy tower until dark so she can stargaze.
••• Birds
Her mother has a rather keen interest in birds, throughout her childhood Elle has assisted in satisfying her mother's interest, such as setting up bird tables and refilling feeders. Whilst she felt obligated to do so, the fact that it made her mother happy in turn made Elle happy, as such she came to associate the task with that and came to love it herself. As such it was natural for her to choose an owl as her Hogwart's companion.
Dislikes: What does your character dislike? Three things and explain why.
••• Quidditch
Elle had a passing interest in Quidditch once, that was before her brother let her have a ride on his beloved Nimbus 1700. Let's just say she was thrown from it one too many times, maybe Theophilus was a poor teacher, or perhaps she had no natural inclination to fly. Either way you won't find this witch close enough to a broomstick to find out!
••• Sunshine
With her fair-skin and freckles, sunshine is her bane. She can't go outside in mildly sunny weather without coming back inside with a red nose, and what the sun isn't holding back? Well, let's just say that you haven't seen a quaffle that red! It's hardly surprising that she has come to dislike the sun.
••• Writing
Elle has horrendous handwriting, sometimes it looks like her quill and the parchment had a fight. Which during History of Magic could be said to be true, she has to entertain herself somehow, right? Whilst she can manage the first sentence okay, her concentration beings to drift and it all goes downhill from there. Long essays are her bane and you can almost hear her groan whenever a teacher gives homework of the non-'practising your wand movements' kind.
Motivation: Elle is driven by passion and obsessions. If she feels passionate about something she won't let anything get in her way to achieving it, she may have been a Hufflepuff at the age of eleven but she's no pushover now. Her obsessions with things such as her muggle-obsession are also a key driving force, she'll sacrifice many things to satiate her obsession.
Strengths: What is your character good at? Please put three different things
••• Optimistic
A cheerful person, very rarely can you say something that gets her down, and even then it has to be pretty big.
••• Relaxed/Laid-back
She rarely gets stressed, preferring to just 'roll with it' rather than worry constantly about what might happen next.
••• Strong-willed
Elle is extremely determined, she likes her own opinions and she'll stick to them. She won't change her opinion, regardless of who is trying to convince her otherwise or what they offer.
Weaknesses/Flaws: What is your character bad at? three things please
••• Can be very stubborn
Whilst her stubbornness is a strength (see 'strong-willed' above), it's also a flaw. She isn't very sensitive when it comes to conflicts and criticism, but if you criticise her opinions and habits she can easily become irritated and malicious (verbally).
••• Private and reserved
She likes to share the simple things, 'this muggle thing is a battery, I like batteries, isn't that interesting?' But when it comes to the deeper, more meaningful stuff, what really makes her her, she'll become tight-lipped keep it to herself.
••• Obsessive
Elle is obsessive. She easily becomes blinded by her desires and loses track of everything and everybody else, if you were meant to work on a project together, forget it, there's this muggle-thing called electricity and well... When she's focused on her obsessions other things won't even enter her mind.
Fears: What is your character afraid of? At least three things
••• Thunderstorms
She doesn't know why she's afraid of thunderstorms. She just is. They frighten her no reason and she knows how irrigational the fear is (to her), what's the thunder going to do? Break down her door and steal her torch? It's out there, she's in here but it terrifies her to the point she can be left shaken and crying.
••• Afraid of losing loved ones/not getting the chance to say goodbye
An underlying fear that was brought about by her grandfather's death. Before then, she'd never even contemplated the idea. She was at Hogwart's at the time, she wasn't even aware that he had been ill and the he just wasn't there anymore. She didn't get to say goodbye, she worries that this may also happen to others she loves. That one day they just won't be there and she won't have had the chance to say goodbye or tell them how much she loves them.
••• Afraid of her possessions being destroyed, and without the possessions she will not have the memories
She worries that all of her memories are tied to the objects she has in her possession, that if, for example, the torch that was given to her by her grandfather was to be destroyed, lost or stolen she would gradually begin to forget him. As a result she fears for the safety of her most precious belongings, because to her they aren't just objects, they are her memories.
When she discovers pensieve this fear will exacerbate. The idea that memories are physical, can be taken from her own mind and put into a bowl reinforces their fragility. If you put them in a pensieve will you still have them in your own mind? Is a question that would plague her. And if so what would happen if the pensieve was destroyed?
Personality: Elle was raised to be polite and courteous, if you're a few feet behind her she'll hold the door open for you and she'll help you pick up your books if you drop them.
In true Hufflepuff fashion she's hard-working, obsessive, would probably be a better term. Once she develops an interest it tends to spiral out of control, luckily she only has a concentration span big enough to focus on one big obsession at a time, the rest tend to fade away after a few days. Her two biggest obsessions are muggles and astronomy, her love for astronomy been put on the back-burner to accommodate her exploding muggle-obsession.
A cheerful person she enjoys the company of others, but don't take her full attention for granted, she is easily distracted and may forget fickle friendships in favour of her obsessions. Once she has formed an attachment to somebody she has a tendency to 'return' during her less-obsessive periods but no matter how strong the connection is, she isn't the kind to divulge secrets or personal details to anybody. Secrets told to her, will also not be revealed to others, after all, it's not her kind of discussion.
Bio: ((I think I was starting to write a novel or something (XD) so... 3rd to 7th year, if something significant happened, maybe we'll find out later...))
Mirabel is a pureblood, she has been raised around magic her whole life. This perhaps is why she finds the muggle-life so enchanting, in the same way muggles are intrigued by the wonder of witchcraft.
She was the middle-child, her brother, Theophilus (Theo), was the eldest. The age difference was quite significant, as such she was closer to her younger brother, Caecilius (Silly).
She held Theo in the highest regards, her idol she wanted nothing more than to be a Gryffindor like him.
Hogwarts held a place of wonder and longing in her heart, it was the pre-cursor to her love of muggles, a desire for the grass on the other side.
On the morning of her first day at Hogwarts she cried for three hours straight because she didn't think she was brave enough to be a Gryffindor, after all she was too scared to go to Hogwarts and leave her beloved Crup Stocky at home and tried to hide him in her trunk. It was only after Silly insisted that he would look after Stocky that she found the bravery to let her parents take her to Platform 9 and 3/4.
Theo was a prefect when she started Hogwarts and had to meet the others in their compartment, he told her she couldn't come with him and that if she wanted to be a Gryffindor she had to be brave and find her own compartment.
Naturally she waited in the corridor before a third year took pity on her and found her a compartment with other first years.
It was in the summer of her first year, that her grandfather first revealed his biggest secret to her. He had secretly been collecting muggle things for the past decade and under no circumstances was she to tell her grandmother (who did not look favourably on muggles).
The game of sneaking around and trying to pull the wool of her grandmother's eyes to hide her grandfather's stash had such a strong impact on her that it developed into her own love.
Partway through her second year her grandfather passed away suddenly. His most treasured muggle item was a torch that he had given to Elle, she wanted to bury it with his coffin but was too scared of what her grandmother would say.
She accepted that maybe she just wasn't cut out to be a Gryffindor after all, maybe she really was meant to be a Hufflepuff and it was a mistake, so she stopped trying. She decided to be herself a little more and chose to take Muggle Studies in her third year. To the utmost disdain of her grandmother.
She became more open about who she really was and what she loved and in doing so, perhaps a little braver too? She didn't like thinking, or speaking about the bad things, like her grandfather's death so she didn't.
Now in her final year of Hogwart's she has done reasonably well, she got an 'A' in Muggle Studies (she loves the subject but isn't particular good at it!), an 'O' is Astronomy at O.W.L. She managed to get a 'T' in History of Magic and 'D' in Potions and a 'P' in Arithmancy. She passed the rest of her subjects without notable score.
She has chosen to continue Astronomy, Charms, Muggle Studies and Transfiguration into N.E.W.T.s.
So far she has made passing acquaintances at best and not a long can be said about the rest of her Hogwart's life.
So onto Seventh Year, maybe this time she'll make a few friends? Maybe even meet a muggleborn who can teach her a thing or two about muggles? Who knows?
